Delete your account
You can delete your Cilantro account and all associated data at any time. This page tells you exactly how, and what gets removed.
Option 1 — From inside the app (fastest)
Open the Cilantro app on iOS or Android, go to Settings, scroll to the Danger zone section at the bottom, and tap Delete account. Confirm the prompt. Your account is deactivated immediately and scheduled for permanent deletion (see the timeline below).
Option 2 — By email (no app required)
If you don't have the app installed, send an email to support@highloop.co with the subject "Delete my Cilantro account". Send from the address you used to sign up if you can.
If you can't access your signup email (lost device, forgot which address you used, changed providers), email us anyway and include enough information to verify the account out-of-band: your display name, an approximate signup date, the names of one or two institutions you connected, and a current contact email we can reach you at. We will verify your identity before deleting the account.
We confirm receipt within 1 business day and complete the deletion within the timeline below. You'll get a final confirmation email once the deletion is done.
The deletion timeline
Cilantro uses a 30-day soft-delete window so you can change your mind if you delete by accident:
- Immediately on request: your account is deactivated. You can no longer sign in. Push notifications stop. Email digests stop. If you have a household partner, their share grant from your subscription ends.
- Within 1 business day: we send a confirmation email and revoke every Plaid access token we hold for your linked institutions (severing Cilantro's connection to your bank).
- During the 30-day soft-delete window: if you change your mind, sign in once and follow the on-screen prompt to restore the account; your data comes back as it was.
- At 30 days: the soft-delete window closes and we perform the final purge — account, login credentials, all transactions, all Plaid metadata, pinned questions, category overrides, notes, AI conversations, feedback messages, and screenshots are deleted from our production database. A final confirmation email is sent.
What gets deleted
- Your Cilantro account and login credentials.
- All linked-bank metadata (institution names, account names and types).
- Every transaction we've stored on your behalf.
- All Plaid access tokens we hold for your linked institutions.
- All pinned questions, manual category overrides, account nicknames, and notes you've created.
- All AI conversation history from the Ask tab.
- All in-app feedback messages and any screenshot attachments.
- All trips Cilantro auto-detected from your transactions.
- Push-notification tokens (APNs / FCM).
What happens to your bank connections
When we delete your data we also call Plaid to revoke each access token, severing Cilantro's connection to your bank. If you'd like to independently confirm the disconnection, you can also visit my.plaid.com to manage and revoke connections from your side.
What we keep, and for how long
After deletion we retain only the minimum information required by applicable law (for example, certain billing records or fraud-prevention logs), held in a restricted-access archive and never used for any product purpose. We do not retain your transaction data after deletion.
What does NOT get deleted
Deleting your Cilantro account does not cancel your Cilantro Plus subscription with Apple or Google, because the subscription lives in your Apple ID or Google account, not ours. Cancel separately in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on iPhone or in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions on Android. If you don't cancel, you'll be billed at the next renewal even though your account is deleted.
Disconnecting a single bank without deleting your account
If you only want to disconnect one institution but keep your Cilantro account, open the app → Settings → Linked banks → tap Remove next to the bank. This deletes that institution's accounts, transactions, and Plaid access token from Cilantro and revokes the access token at Plaid.
